Trauma and EMDR (Eye Movement Desenitization and Reprocessing):
Overcoming a traumatic life experience
and seeking relief.
When people experience trauma or negative life events, they may relate to themselves or others in ways that feel "stuck" or repetitious. EMDR helps move you out of these negative mental patterns and into a more healthy way of functioning.
EMDR is a proven and well-researched therapeutic technique that combines talking and structured eye movement that is similar to what occurs naturally during dreaming or REM (rapid eye movement). You are conscious during the entire session.
I use EMDR to help clients decrease suffering and experience more emotional ease and freedom
. Sometimes EMDR is the entire treatment. More often, it is incorporated into our regular therapy as an adjunct treatment. You can typically begin to experience more ease within 1-5 sessions. I am a certified Level II EMDR therapist.
EMDR can be particularly helpful for:
- Overcoming trauma
- Reducing anxiety, fear and depression
- Increasing self-esteem
- Managing post-traumatic stress
- Reducing disturbing memories
- Decreasing panic attacks
- Dealing with complicated grief
- Reducing stress and its physical manifestations
